Glazier

WHAT HE DOES:

Glaziers engaged in construction work cut and install all types and sizes of glass such as: plate glass of all kinds and thicknesses, clear and heat absorbing window glass, obscure glass, mirrors, leaded glass panels and insulating glass units; also they fabricate and install aluminum entrances, sidelights and show windows. They fit and install plastic and porcelain panels in metal and wood frames.

The tools common to the Glazier are glass cutters and pliers, putty knives, measuring tapes and rules, an assortment of small hand tools, levels, electric drills and power cutting tools and grinders.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Age – minimum 18 years
  • Physically able to perform the work of the trade
  • Sufficient education to successfully learn the rudiments of the trade
  • Pass a standardized test as selected and administered by the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee
  • Able to perform work on high-rise buildings (electric platforms)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOINT APPRENTICESHIP COMMITTEE:

  • High school transcript
  • Diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Birth certificate
  • Participate in a personal interview

TERMS OF APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING:

  • Length of indentureship – 4 years
  • Minimum hours of related classroom instruction – 144 hours each year
  • Indentured to the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee

Upper Ohio Valley Building Trades Council

The Upper Ohio Valley Building Trades Council (OVBTC) was chartered on January 17, 1939 in Wheeling, West Virginia. The OVBTC meets every Tuesday of the month, with the meeting location varying between Steubenville, Ohio at the Electricians’ Hall and in Wheeling, West Virginia at the Iron Workers’ Hall.
